Freshworld was founded in 2001 by Danie Kieviet (Snr) after serving as the Managing Director of Freshmark for 11 years and as a director of Shoprite Holdings for 4 years (Checkers is the biggest supermarket group in South Africa). In 2019, Danie celebrated his 45th year in the fresh produce industry.

He identified the opportunity to supply international supermarket groups directly with top-quality fruit according to their requirement schedules/programs, thus maximizing value and ensuring quality, while trying to keep costs to a minimum.
